Dorothy Garrett, 86, of Minford,
died Tuesday at St. Mary's Hospital in Huntington, W.Va.
She was born Aug. 18, 1919 in Scioto County a daughter of the late James W. and Ella M. (Knore) Weeks.
She was a retired elementary school teacher for the Minford Local School with 31 years of service.
A graduate of Minford High School in the Class of 1937, she attended Rio Grande College and Ohio University and was a member of the Minford Homemaker Club and the Scioto County Retired Teachers Association.
She was a member of the Minford United Methodist Church for over 50 years, having taught all church school classes except the nursery at some time in these years.
In her retirement years, Dorothy spent time flower gardening and making crafts and quilts, especially the Little Dutch Girl. She was the author of an unpublished book entitled "Empowered by the Holy Spirit."
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Lowell Weeks, one sister, Ethel Weeks in infancy and a grandson, Shane Keatley.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, James H. and Carolyn Garrett, of Lucasville; one daughter and son-inlaw, Jackalin S. and Donald Keatley, of Gallipolis; sister-inlaw, Margaret Weeks, of Minford; two granddaughters, Lisa (Jim) Martin and Laura Garrett; and three great-grandchildren, Stephanie, Jaclyn and Cody Martin.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Minford United Methodist Church with Pastor Tim Bennett officiating. Burial will be in Batterson Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Erwin-Dodson- Allen Funeral Home in Minford and one hour prior to the service at the church Friday.
