Gertrude B. McKenzie, 96, of Minford, died Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at Heartland of Portsmouth.

Born May 27, 1913, in Scioto County, a daughter of the late Robert Lee and Florence Jane (Johnson) Bradbury, she was a graduate of Minford High School in the class of 1931. She was a graduate of Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in 1934, was a private duty registered nurse from 1967 to 1987, and was a member of Minford United Methodist Church.

She is survived by one son, James David McKenzie of Minford; two daughters, Mary Jane McCain Ridgeway, and husband George Ridgeway, of Heath, and Gwen Lester and husband Jack Lester, of Minford; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great- grandchild.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald A. McKenzie, on March 25, 1996, whom she married on Feb. 15, 1940, in Cincinnati; a son-in-law, Danny McCain, and two brothers and nine sisters.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday, July 6, 2009, at Erwin-Dodson-Allen Funeral Home in Minford with Tim Bennett officiating. Burial will be in Bennett Cemetery in Minford. Friends may call at the funeral home from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday and one hour prior to the service Monday.
